What You Can Expect with Invisalign Clear Aligners
When you visit our practice, whether you are an adult, teen, or child, we will make the Invisalign experience comfortable for you and ensure you are satisfied with the end result. After all, there is nothing we love more than creating bright, beautiful smiles!
Let’s take a look at what you can expect from your experience with clear dental aligners.
1. An Initial Visit
During this visit, we will talk about your cosmetic dentistry goals and determine if clear aligners are a good fit.
Candidates for Invisalign include patients who experience:
- Overcrowding
- Open bite
- Crossbites and underbites
- Tooth gaps
- Mildly crooked or protruding teeth
2. Molding
Following assessment, we will then proceed to the molding process. This entails digital scanning, photographing, and possibly physical molds being taken and sent to the Invisalign lab. There, they will create your series of clear dental aligners and send them back to us.
3. Check-in Appointments
Once we receive your Invisalign aligners, it’s time for another appointment to fit them. Each set of clear aligners you put into your mouth will have two trays (one for the top, and one for the bottom) and numbers so that you know where you are at in the process.
At this follow-up appointment, we might also add attachments to your teeth in certain places that will help your teeth move better. These attachments are also clear so they will remain undetected as well!
We will send you home with your trays and will give you a time frame when you will need to change them. Every clear aligner is a little different, so it is important to use each one in order and allow them to work their magic!
4. Maintenance
To make sure you are on track with your teeth alignment plan, we will ask that you come in for an appointment every few months. Aside from this, we really focus on letting the invisible aligners do their thing!
Other things to remember when using clear dental aligners include:
- They should be worn for 22 hours a day (or as much as possible). We expect you to take them out for eating and brushing, but that’s about it. The more you wear them, the happier your teeth will be!
- Brushing your invisible aligners keeps them clean and bright.
- The more you wear your clear aligners, the less they will hurt.
- Since clear aligners are removable, there is no special process needed for brushing or flossing your teeth.
- Each set of Invisalign aligners is custom-made for the patient. How cool is that?
Answering Your FAQs About Clear Dental Aligners
As your Indianapolis clear aligner provider, we want you to have all the information you need about Invisalign. Here are some frequently asked questions we receive.
Are the attachments permanent?
Absolutely not! As we mentioned above, attachments are little bumps that we bond to your teeth in very specific locations to help your teeth adjust. Just like with regular braces, you will receive retainers after your trays are out to make sure your hard work allows your teeth to set into place. At this time, we will pop off your attachments, which is a painless process.
Can I play sports with Invisalign?
You absolutely can. However, you must note that Invisalign is designed to straighten your teeth, not project them. Therefore, if you are required to wear a mouth guard, we suggest you take out your trays and wear proper teeth protection throughout the duration of your sporting event.
How long does Invisalign take to work?
While we wish we had a better answer for you, the duration of wear varies from patient to patient. However, most cases we see last 12-18 months.
Do invisible aligners hurt?
You will experience some discomfort when you wear clear aligners for the first time or when you get a new set. This is because your teeth have settled into their current position and are now being disrupted. However, this discomfort goes away after a day or so.
As your Indianapolis clear aligners dentist, we are here to make the process comfortable and easy. If you’re experiencing significant discomfort, be sure to call us or send us a text and we can discuss the issue.
